I gained qualified teacher status in England and have taught at nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools in England. One of my expertise is to translate classical Chinse texts into English.
With reference to teaching Mandarin Chinese, I am experienced in teaching children as young as 2 years old and as old as 70 years old. My approach is calm and steady (the benefit of being a practising Buddhsit), partly following a classical Chinese way of teaching and learning, with a particular emphasis on guiding children's to develop a focused mind in the process of learning Chinese.
Every single sinograph (Chinese character) is full of art, philosophy and wisdom. Be you a child or an adult learner, I will introduce you to Chinese history and culture related to sinographs in great depth and width. For example, I explain the wisdom behind the sinograph for anger, which is ? with the sinograph 'slave' on the top and 'heart' at the bottom.
My teaching is not purely for passing exams but for developing a holistic understanding of the language and the culture associated with it. I celebrate culture diversity and have really enjoyed teaching learners of different age groups and from different cultural, social and religious backgrounds across the world.
For young children, I use songs, games, play activities and stories to expose them in a natural Chinese-speaking environment. For older learners, depending on individual learners, I use music, art, etc. to engage with them.
