Qualified maths teacher offering private GCSE/A Level maths tuition. Friendly and approachable, Online/F2F

Advert description
I am a qualified Mathematics teacher with a degree in Pure Mathematics and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics both from the University of Sussex. I have experience teaching maths in both a 1-1 private setting as well as in the classroom.

My experience with teaching began as a teenager working with the Brighton Science Festival. I had both paid work and volunteer roles teaching children aged 4-12 in a hands-on and engaging manner. I started as a science communicator then went on to running workshops and entire events as well as getting involved in the admin and coordination of the festival. I continue to work with the festival team up to the present day, at pop-up science events during half terms, and most recently at the science tent at Elderflower Fields Festival-and 2023.

As well as maths and science, I have years of experience teaching guitar and accordion. I have enjoyed tutoring adults and children in music, covering many different abilities, styles, and personal goals. Teaching in a wide range of settings has allowed me to develop a student-led approach to tutoring, adapting my teaching style to their individual learning style, using the most effective techniques for each student to learn.

I believe that every student is different and requires a personalised teaching style suited to meet their individual learning style. During our first lesson we will use our time to talk about your specific goals, and then go over some simple questions to practice, so I can assess your current level and learning style. From there we can take things at your pace. Not spending too long on the things you find easy, gradually introducing things you find more challenging, revisiting these topics in future lessons, and weaving in tasks that stretch your conceptual understanding as we go.

A usual lesson would last an hour. Starting with 10-15 mins of fun warm up exercises based on what we have looked at during the previous lesson to refresh what we did before. The next 10-20 minutes we would go over a particular area of maths that you'd like to develop, discussing ideas, and looking at low-stakes worked examples. Once that's all completed, we will spend the rest of the lesson either consolidating what we have learned with practice questions, or revising another area of maths/looking at past papers.
