Advert description
Self taught guitar/singer/songwriter for the last 15 years.
I'm a musician, filmmaker and father living in St Leonards.
Being part British/Turkish has led to my music taste being rather varied...
Having worked in a secondary school with the music dept. working one to one as well as in small groups, I feel I am able to relate with and encourage teens / young adults who are passionate about music. I now head up all things music at my local church of 300+ arranging choirs, bands and soloists for various events. Most recently scoring original arrangements for a small orchestra at a Christmas event. It brings me great joy working with both causal and professional musicians and seeing progress.
As a musician starting out, it can be easy to pick up some bad habits or plato rather fast.
Some points in general that I have found useful are:
Set realistic goals - this week/month I want to achieve...
Inspiration - listening to music that's maybe outside of my regular diet and giving it a go...
Breaking things down - not just watching 1/2 speed YouTube videos, but being taught at my pace and my level.
Practice - it's obvious but those boring scales and warmups work.
Learning the craft - learning to finish the song not just the riff...
Having outside input - we all have blind spots and any bad habits I had only got worse until someone encouraged me to try a different approach.
I occasionally give private in person tuition and am in the process of writing/recording a solo EP.
