Having a Professional Theatre background as performer, director, practitioner and writer I am confident and highly skilled across all artistic media. I have extensive and broad based experience working creatively with young people within theatre and associated dramatic performance. I coach LAMDA and also audition preparation for those wanting to pursue acting professionally at Drama School/ College
I also have a drama in education backgound and have taught drama and theatre within various educational settings working with all Uk based examination qualifications and also with the International Baccalaureate system.
As a professional theatre director and former artistic director of a professional theatre in education company I have worked with a variety of actors performers musicians designers and theatre technicians on devised, commissioned and repertoire projects.
My style is dynamic and I always aim beyond what is reasonably expected. I am honest in my teaching relationship as truth is at the heart of all acting performance it is important to establish a truthful and honest approach to what the student and myself will actively and realistically aim to achieve.
I have a natural eye for ability and will always push talent where I find it.
I work hard for my students and I expect my students to want to do the same for me. I try to make my lessons engaging, fun and sometimes unconventional depending on what work is being done. I always work with the acting triumvirate - voice, body and mind. I am eclectic in my approach and influences as a practitioner. I like to take bits from everyone but often draw on the work of Stella Adlér as a better way into understanding what it is to act. I believe culture round performance is key for more mindful work and will always encourage students to look sideways in approaching their acting prep. I am very knowledgable within my subject.and even now always keen to learn more and to keep in the loop of new styles productions projects and creative practises. Knowledge is power and I will always impress on my students how important that is for a more successful end performance
As a teacher I encourage my pupils to be creative and to always think more unconventionally in their literary and practical approach to Drama and its’ academic study .
I always start with ‘the student as a person ‘ and consider what they want to achieve and then clearly lay out the right creative approach for them.
Everyone is unique and it is important to tailor lessons to the individual. I pride myself on doing the best I can for whatever the student aspires to achieve and believe I am inspirational in how I have changed the lives of those students I have worked with in my 30 years of working professionally within the Performance Arts; my track record of recognised success speaks for this.
