History PhD, published author of non-fiction history

I am a US citizen currently living in the UK with my wife and children.

I have over 15 years of teaching experience in a wide variety of contexts, both classroom and virtual. I can make history more comprehensible to students of different ages, diverse cultural backgrounds, and all levels of English language ability. My specialty is 20th-century US and East Asian history, but I am comfortable tutoring on any history topic, and any region, from ancient times to contemporary.

My passion for teaching goes back to my time teaching English in rural Japanese elementary and middle schools from-Later, as a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, I seized every opportunity to instruct, whether designing and lecturing my own class or leading smaller discussion sections. My passion for history and writing goes back even further, to childhood, when I devoured books on all sorts of historical topics. I'm excited to share what I've learned along the way, not only about what happened in the past but about how we learn to contextualize and analyze it!
