Experienced retired career diplomat and international civil servant with over 35 years international field and desk experience in Asia, Africa, Europe and America. Experience with NGOs, national governments and international organizations. Ambassador/ Director in the Nigerian Foreign Service and formerly Minister-Counsellor, Political/Economic Affairs, Embassy and Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the African Union/Ethiopia, with concurrent accreditation to Djibouti. Was Executive Secretary of the first AU Commission of Inquiry, African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan (AUCISS) from January 2014-January 2015. Acted as Director, Department of Political Affairs, African Union Commission between March 2012 and December 2013. Substantive Head of Humanitarian Affairs, Refugees and Displaced Persons Division, manages both the Refugees Assistance Fund and Special Emergency Assistance Fund for Drought and Flooding in Africa totaling US$ 5 million. Have responsibility for delivering on the African Union Free Movement Agenda and the African Passport. Served as Senior Political Analyst and Focal Point for the Somalia and Ethio-Eritrea Conflicts in the Commission, co-negotiated the various peace agreements leading to the implementation of the Transitional Government of Somalia. Was Senior Political/Humanitarian Affairs Officer in the African Union Mission in Liberia, where extensive experience was gained in various aspects of rebuilding of the State and in Transitional Justice, including in the establishment of durable solutions in the area of Law and Justice Reform. Possess emergency response capability, conflict resolution, negotiations, international mediation skills, elections & electoral management, program management and strategic planning skills.
My experience with my training in Law, particularly, in employing International Law, International Criminal law International Humanitarian Law as well as International Dispute Resolution puts me in a good stead to impart this knowledge to students at both the first and second degree levels.
