I believe that the most effective way of teaching somebody and helping them learn is by creating an environment in by which the student feels comfortable to ask any sort of questions about what they may not understand without feeling silly, there is no such thing as stupid questions! By creating this environment which is more relaxed for the student I believe that it maximises learning opportunities and actually encourages students to learn rather than it seeming like a task.
