Advert description
I enjoy teaching and helping my students learn English as a foreign language and understand its role in a globalised world. In our lessons, we also take time to identify and practise sounds (vowels and consonant clusters) that may be challenging for them due to their native phonetic and phonological repertoires. By recognising the differences and similarities of their own languages with English, they can discover what their own strong and weak linguistic skills are and focus on how to improve them. Transferable skills play a pivotal role here too as they can be used in social, academic or professional contexts all of which require communication.
I hold a bachelor’s honours degree in Education. I started my scholastic formation at Universidad de Los Lagos in Osorno and got my degree from Universidad de Las Américas in Santiago, both institutions based in Chile. I have worked as an English teacher since 2005 delivering elementary, intermediate, and advanced lessons for young learners and adults. I began my teaching career at primary and secondary schools and then progressed to higher education at language schools and universities where I taught EAP (English for Academic Purposes) as well as Linguistics, Articulatory Phonetics and English Phonology using a blended-learning modality (in-person classroom time and individual study online using e-learning platforms). In 2018, I successfully completed a CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) course in Cambridge, England. My areas of interest are: Phonetics, Phonology, Etymology, Linguistics.
