Advert description
I'm an experienced legal practitioner and law tutor with a specialisation in criminal and human rights law.
TUTORING EXPERIENCE: I've tutored a wide range of students, including undergraduate and masters level university students, as well as non-law students, in the practical and theoretical aspects of law, since 2007.
ACHIEVING ACADEMIC GOALS: I have myself been academically successful (LLB Hons (first class) and LLM (Distinction and AHRC Studentship Award winner)), and thus have a good understanding of what is required for academic success. I also have a strong awareness of some of the barriers to success (dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety and procrastination) and try to maintain a pedagogical approach that takes those factors into account, where necessary.
APPROACH TO TUTORING: My overall approach is to ensure that students are intellectually stimulated and I aim to help them relate legal theory to practice using real life examples. Examples of this approach in action for adult post-graduate learners can be found on my academia page. I believe in supporting students to achieve their goals by helping them to take responsibility for their own success.
REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE: I have worked in criminal law reform and trained as a solicitor specializing in asylum and refugee law. I have published in legal journals and publications on topics ranging from sexual offences law, criminal procedure, identity theft, arms trade treaties and international human rights and humanitarian law.
