I am a qualified teacher with a Cambridge University Bachelor of Education degree and over 20 years experience as a classroom teacher in Key Stages 1 and 2, with senior management roles and responsibilities in my primary school teaching career. Since June 2009 I have been responsible for monitoring and supporting children of primary and secondary age who are educated at home by their parents. I have successfully implemented regular monitoring reviews and this practice is now consistent and embedded and is an important element of safeguarding procedures. I have been effective in providing support to parents by offering advice on conventional and alternative curricula, teaching materials and teaching strategies. I have understood and supported many differing approaches or ‘ways of educating’ and guided colleagues and agencies in developing their understanding that these are all feasible and legally valid.
