Affordable, empathetic, and successful teaching and collaborating from a qualified professional with 26 years experience. I have been teaching since 1998. Having attended the University of Birmingham to gain my honours and teaching qualifications, I have been able to apply all the lessons that I learned there to great effect. Teaching Maths is about helping the students understand not only how to pass the exams, but to learn the skills they can apply from Mathematics in their everyday life.
What approach do I use in my lessons? Since every students presents themselves as a unique learner, I initially look for my starting points. From then a progression plan based on improving skill, confidence and resilience in Mathematics. Learning the meaning of and demands of the questions in exams is fundamental to success in such a wide-ranging subject. Equally important is how to manage the limited amount of time in exams. Beyond this crucial point is the need to learn the strategies and techniques used, the application of formulae and mathematical theories. Many students find learning the formulae easy, but not so others. Adapting formulae to respond to questions can be tricky, seeing what is important and what should be done first is the key to success to complete answers.
Equally important is how to manage the limited amount of time in exams. In order to attain the highest grades. Many students taking Foundation Level maths at GCSE wish to achieve a grade 5, which will assist them in getting places in good schools and colleges. This can be done with practice and understanding.
There is so much to learn. I fully understand the pressure on students with regard to the content of the subject, which is immense. Learning to integrate the strands of mathematical knowledge will assist greatly in this regard. Since the language can be confusing, it is a priority to learn the meaning of mathematical words. By focusing on the key routes to success in this subject, it is possible to distil the content and make the whole comprehensible.
The key to success in maths is patience, persistence, practice and positivity.
It has been one of the greatest journeys of my life to work with the range of students I have had the privilege to meet in the 10 years of tutoring and 26 years of in schools and in college. I look forward to meeting new students and creating new journeys.
