I loved studying Maths at GCSE it was one of the main subjects I really improved on through hard work. I started the year at a solid grade 5 before developing onto a grade 7. It really makes a difference when you create a safe space for students to express themselves when they are unsure of certain things as it allows for growth and progressions. I love making a difference in students' success as they are able to achieve things they once thought they couldn't.
I also tutor Sociology as I’m currently studying this at university and believe I can provide help in a subject I know a lot about. I achieved an A* at A Level. I only teach in areas of general theory, the education system, the family and inequality.
In preparation for a lesson, I review the notes provided about the student before choosing a simple subject to springboard and progress from. This not only builds initial confidence and recaps previous content but it also provides me with a better understanding as to what level the student is working at. I frequently use practice questions and work through one or two together to enable the student to fully grasp the method before allowing them to have a go alone. This also provides an interaction as I attempt to evoke their thoughts on how they might answer the question. Overall, I provide a safe environment in which the student is able to voice when they are unsure of certain topics so that I can explain it in an alternate way to ensure they have a full understanding of the content.
