Encourage curiosity, questions. Draw on learner’s knowledge. Be practical and relate to real life situations. I take you from where you’re at to where you want to go.
Charles in a nutshell
I use a discovery approach to learning. I will present you with a relevant problem, or let you pose your own problem. From there, through an enquiry approach, asking relevant questions, I lead you to find a solution through questioning. Yes, you will be on a quest, a journey of discovery! I also emphasise that there is not always a single solution to a problem.

From there, through an enquiry approach, asking relevant questions, I lead you to find a solution through questioning. Yes, you will be on a quest, a journey of discovery! I also emphasise that there is not always a single solution to a problem.

I have taught at secondary school level, and also at adult level where I have run numerous workshops for writers, teachers, curriculum developers and editors. Depending on your level I will use a practical, hands on approach, up to proofs at higher level. You will also learn how to apply what you have learnt to situations you are or will be in.

My pupils, students and participants have always come out of my classes with a sense of awe and fulfilment, and have exceeded all records when it comes to exams.

I worked with Charles when he taught secondary maths and science to classes in Botswana. English was a second language to these students and he was very sensitive to the use of language. He was very interested in the philosophy of education and read widely on teaching theories. Islamic art and mathematics is an example of his wide interests. He helped government educational advisors working in the country and took an active part in several workshops ran by the government in the school holidays for teachers and other educators. He was highly regarded by his colleagues in the school he taught but was also widely known and respected by other mathematical teachers country wide. He will use examples familiar to students when explaining each topic so starting from where the student is at and so helping them gain in confidence and learning. I strongly recommend Charles as a mathematics tutor.
