My skill is easy, relating chemistry ideas to everyday life. Breaking chemical terms to a level the student will simply understand. For example, if I'm talking about say, calcium carbonate, most beginner students become frighten just by hearing the name. When you refer to the chalk you are using to be what you just called, they become relieved and wanting to know more. I do this for most other scenarios.
Another important threshold concept in Chemistry I tend to focus on is The Periodic Table, Properties and Characteristics. Once this concept is understand by a student, excellence is near fetched.
