Advert description
I have a degree in Education, and a Certificate in Education to teach English and History at secondary level(age 11 to 18) in England and Wales.
After qualifying as a fully qualified English teacher at Watford Grammar School, I determined to see the world and become broader in my appreciation of difference, all the time teaching English, either as a foreign or as a second language. This was the case in India (for Voluntary Service Overseas), in Brazil (for Sociedade Brasileira da Cultura Inglesa), in France (at University level), and in North America (at Camp Hillcroft, Poughkeepsie), and in England teaching English to immigrants from Bangladesh at Denbigh High School. At the moment I am privately tutoring English to students from Iraq, aged 14 to 17 as well as actively supporting young people through the international youth group Ytop ()
I have deliberately taught English as a Foreign language at all levels to keep fresh in my approach and delivery. Each of us learns in a different way, some through learning the words of songs, some by reading, some by putting themselves in the situation where they have to converse, some by constant practice and application. In all of these cases, the tutor is so important, because it is the tutor who can transfer, not only the mechanics of the language, the rules and so on, but the love of the language and the love of learning. It is the tutor who makes the first links with the student, by the approach, the attitude, patience, and belief in the students success in feeling confident in learning.
Language Games are so important for many reasons not only for breaking the ice, but in experiencing a soft approach, where English is put to use and where communication is the priority, thus having a reason and motive to use English.
Then there is the trying, not giving up, and seeing the results of constant endeavour. I as the teacher allow the student to develop at their own speed, in their own way, where communication is key, and where the needs of the student are fulfilled.
It is the "student's class', where I as the teacher provide the means and the ways. This leads to the success that the student feels, where progress is obvious and the desire to improve is a natural result.
I look forward to meeting and tutoring all those who wish to take up the most wonderful challenge of learning English.
