My lessons emerge from a thorough knowledge of my student's aims, objectives and motivation. I use conversation and question and answer to create a developmental picture of their journey from where they are to where they want to go. By this means I have led exam-shy young people from failure to success in GCSEs, CXCs and Bachelor or Masters Degrees. My preparation has been through regular school teaching in England, through private educational development in Jamaica, to tutoring university and college students in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. In addition to generating classroom materials, I am a writer and a poet sponsoring groups at various levels of production.
Drama in Education offers methods I have learned and applied in many situations. By developing a character, a student can "wear a mask" that both protects their self esteem and challenges new horizons of language outreach and comprehension. I use sketches, pictures and improvisations to reference the on-going content of language exchange and use the results to fine tune grammar and research vocabulary and spellings recognising that language development reflects and extends cultures
