Advert description
Spanish Beginners Class:
1.) I like to introduce myself, exchange greetings with the student, and then I outline the purpose of the lesson.
If on-line I will share my Power-point slide with the student, and if in person I will share cards and sheets.
2.) For example, when dealing with the Spanish verbs "Ser" and "Estar" I begin the lesson with 1 short model sentence for "Ser", and 1 short model sentence for "Estar", either on a Power Point Slide or on cards and sheets: Examples:
Ser : "Yo soy Ricardo" = "I am Ricardo".
Estar: "Yo estoy en Cardiff". = "I am in Cardiff".
3.) Then I ask the student to repeat and adapt the 2 models in his/her words orally, changing my name for their name and the town location as appropriate
4.) Then I will explain the Spanish grammatical theory behind the use of "Ser" and "Estar" with examples.
Spanish Grammatical Summary:
"SER" is used for permanent or lasting characteristics (e.g.: descriptions, occupations, origins, time, characteristics).
Whilst "ESTAR" is used for temporary states and locations.
(e.g.: position, location, action, emotion).
5.) I may then initiate a practise exercise with the student aimed at identifying when to use "Ser" and "Estar". This can be done via a role play or card and sheet activity.
6.) If agreed upon, homework practice exercises may be given. And I endeavor to give interesting and age appropriate homework practice exercises.
