Advert description
My teaching approach can be varied depending on a student’s age, proficiency, areas of weakness and even personality. Having taught languages in both a school setting and an informal environment, I have seen how more traditional methods of language learning are not always suited to everyone and that a busy, forced and competitive environment can sometimes hinder a student’s confidence. For my older students and intermediate level tutees looking to work on their speaking skills, I would often send them articles to read and listen to each week which we would then present/discuss/debate the following week. Topics would vary from world events, popular culture, travel and more as a way to grow their vocabulary and gain confidence in spontaneous conversation. I would also try to give some grammatical exercises so that students could vary their use of tenses while also teaching common “everyday” expressions and idiomatic expressions. Once a month, I would encourage students to choose their own subject for the week (namely something they find interesting or want to learn more about) and to make a 10 minute presentation which I would then ask questions about. With regards to lessons for my younger students, I would often incorporate games into my lessons to build vocabulary and improve memory while also going over school English lessons for the week and providing homework support with further exercises to support the school content.
