Advert description
My tutoring is focused on giving students a deep and resonant understanding of mathematics that both sustains interests and overcomes obstacles and fears in learning.
I have a First Class Master's in Mathematics and research experience at an academic level at Cambridge University's Mathematics campus. I have guided children and young adults of different ages through different topics of Mathematics, including Cambridge's famous "Part III" courses.
My tuition is adapted exactly to the student. Going through subject notes, solving problems and past papers, memorising formulae and techniques - these are helpful, but things that any teacher can do, or even sometimes a good textbook. My personalised tuition can provide something more than this.
When a student hits a "wall" with a mathematical concept, they might feel stupid or slow. They feel like they are continuously getting it wrong. More often than not, I have found that the "wall" they face is based on sound reasoning from their point of view. Mathematical sticking points are most often grounded in sensible misunderstandings. I have had success in navigating these intuitive misunderstandings and guiding students to not only not fear the "walls" of mathematics, but to learn ways to think laterally to avoid getting stuck on problems in general.
I also like to give students a larger context to the theory that they study, whether that be with anecdotes from the fascinating history of mathematics, to applications and engineering that is dependent on the mathematics they learn in the everyday world around them. I hope I can guide more students away from their fears of mathematics, and towards a place where they can see the beauty and sense of it, enabling them to confidently handle new lessons, exam questions, and anything other mathematical challenge that comes their way.
