My first lesson will include a few diagnostic tests to really understand the individual’s level. From those tests, I will compose a number of lessons targeting weak areas and building on areas that are already strong to further improve them. I teach through activities and writing tasks, for example, a lesson on different sentence types, I would assign a creative writing to students where students have the freedom to write any story of their choose but they would have to use all three different types of sentences. Through my experience, I have found that incorporating creativity with learning has been the most successful and engaging way to get students to enjoy and build a passion for learning. It is best to instill this into primary and early secondary school students as they need a positive outlook on education for them to excel in the future. My lessons tend to last 1.5 to 2 hours, and I set homework to consolidate learning, which I review the start of the next lesson. I also include spelling tests, and set certain goals per student. This allows for positive competition and students wanting to excel in their academic prowess to achieve these goals. After finishing a few weeks worth of content, I carry out topic tests to see whether I have to review certain topics again to ensure students understand them to the best of their ability. I have found through my four years of experience that these methods have worked best for me.
