I was hand selected by Birmingham Culture & Language School to use my effective Mandarin learning techniques and strategies to coach groups of beginner level adults. Careful attention is attached to pronunciation, and drawing effective parallels to English phonics that replicate the sounds of words (characters) in Mandarin. I am at HSK 6-7 level, and have experience speaking on Chinese TV.

The brilliant thing about being a non-native who has reached advanced level status is that I can teach you all the tips and tricks I wished someone had taught me during my Mandarin Chinese learning journey. This is significant because a host of Chinese tutors do not have enough of a systematic understanding of the English language to draw important parallels with the structure of sounds.

As a teacher, I believe it is important to imbue students with enthusiasm for their subject. That is what carries you through! I bring a positive energy, and create a learning experience that is efficient and effective.

From my own experience, it is extremely valuable to have a high-level non-native tutor, especially at the beginning of learning, to provide essential foundations, relay experiences, and serve as a sort of role model to show that Mandarin Chinese language acquisition is possible. For upper-intermediate and advanced level students, I strongly advise to only practise with native speakers, as you will be at a level to meaningfully converse and improve timbre and intonation, as well as pick up more colloquialisms.

I also honestly want students to know that teaching is just part of the process. Attending 'x' amount of classes does not guarantee language proficiency. My lessons are therefore also curated to help with your own self-empowerment, giving you the framework to systematically train this language in your spare time. This is a process of inspiring your intrinsic motivation to learn so that language learning becomes a hobby - practical, systematic, yet fun, and not perceived as a chore. Quite simply, if you don’t look forward to doing something, you will make excuses to not do it, and you won’t. Training and naturalising your mindset is such an important part of this process, and I can help you with this.
