Advert description
I believe one of the most important things when teaching maths, is to guide students through the ideas and concepts. For example, instead of directly stating the quadratic formula, explain to them how we can come up with it ourselves. The other important thing is to make sure the lecture is interesting and interactive. I believe many students dislike mathematics, simply because of the way they are introduced to new concepts, imagine if you were introduced to painting, not with Vinci or Van Gogh, but with lessons on how to paint a wall... Every new idea in mathematics has a question that lies at its roots, it is important to convey the depth and importance of the question to the students, otherwise the student will find it hard to find the motivation to put any effort required to learn. Studying at UoB, I have seen the teaching styles of my professors, and I understand how different a lecture in the same topic can look, being taught by two different professors. I will try my best to foster a love for mathematics and a spirit of enquiry in my students.
