My name is Dr Sum Mistry and I have over 8 years worth of teaching experience in 3 different continents. I am currently a Training and Development coordinator at Cardiff University and teach a wide range of students from many disciplines. I completed my PhD which is in Psychiatric genetics aimed at understanding the causes of bipolar disorder and most robustly associated childhood/adolescent markers which might be useful for prediction of later bipolar disorder. I currently hold an approved Associate Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy (which is the Higher education equivalent of a PGCE which would be used to teach in schools). I want to help you or your child to become the best version of you/their self. I am offering tutoring in Biology and Chemistry up to A level. I am also offering help for Biomedical, Neuroscience and Psychology up to degree level. This includes help with proofreading essays, advice and guidance on structure and concepts as well as taught sessions. Most recently, I passed my Level 1 British Sign Language course accredited by the Insitute of British Sign Language with an overall grade of 91%. To me, working on a one-to-one basis with people gives them the opportunity to really tackle what they are struggling with. If you don't understand something, it isn't your fault, it is the person who taught you in the first place. I don't lecture people, I work alongside them in an engaging way. Having worked in 3 continents, I know that confidence can sometimes be an issue. That is why when I give you my time, you will see yourself grow in confidence and in knowledge. I work with the Brilliant Club and Cardiff Universities Step UP programme where the teaching is aimed specifically at those from disadvantaged backgrounds. This offers a unique insight into university life and shows students that with some guidance, it doesn't have to be scary.
