English is the official language for Nigeria

I have a native level understanding of English Language, for speaking, reading and writing. It was the primary language of teaching and learning all through my 17 years of schooling. It is the official language of communication all through my 21years of Corporate work experience. It is also the official language of Nigeria. As such, in Nigeria, English functions as the official language of education (i.e. instruction is primarily given in English throughout schools in Nigeria and as a means of both informal and formal communication, especially in urban centers.

While the British English and American English, represents the only two main variants of standard written English used in the world today, my preference and competency is in the British English. My understanding of this covers the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening and comprehension.

The target objectives for which I have built some experience in the teaching of English Language has been;
a) to enable the learner to communicate effectively and appropriately in real life situation
b) for study purpose across a curriculum, and
c) to develop and integrate the use of the four language skills i.e. Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing

In the course of my experience in teaching or being taught in English Language, I have developed a strong competency and preference for using the direct method approach delivered in a classroom environment or via video conferencing.
In addition, my interactions with students in learning language has been through building good connections and relationships with the students. This has helped with demystifying their fears of language and has made progress with the curriculum much easier.
