Teacher of English with 20 years of experience in the UK and the US

I have been a full-time teacher of high school English in one school in the inner city of Miami, Florida and three schools in different parts of Great Britain. In those twenty years of teaching, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, working with students/pupils from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

I have a Master's Degree in Education, with a concentration in Reading. A great emphasis in my roles at the schools in which I have taught has been on the diagnosis and remediation of reading problems, where my focus was to assess those in my charge to determine their strengths and needs, design an instructional plan reinforce those strenghts and to overcome those needs, and to provide one-to-one, individually-based instruction.

As I have worked with people from the poorest neighborhoods of Miami, where our student population was primarily made up of refugees from the Caribbean, to pupils from differing backgrounds in the UK, I have the know-how to engage with pupils from all over. And do so in an engaging, patient, and approachable manner.
