Advert description
I have an Honours Degree in French with Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh and also hold a diploma in translation (French to English). In 2017 I obtained a diploma in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages).
I have previously tutored English to 11+ and beyond for families in my
area over a period of some six to seven years. My most successful outcome was when one pupil obtained a grant to attend a highly-rated secondary school in Kent, as a result of which the family relocated. Many of the children I have tutored have parents whose first language is not English and I was able to provide support in knowledge of British culture, history and idioms in the course of our lessons. I have found one-to-one tutoring to be more rewarding for the student, although I have tutored two sisters together in the past. I have particularly enjoyed helping less confident pupils increase in confidence as their skills and knowledge improve.
I carried out tutoring in addition to other professional activity such as editing and
proof-reading of translations for professional firms in London and stopped tutoring on a one-to-one basis when the Covid pandemic started. I have used Teams in work-based meetings and remote tutoring seems a practical option at present.
