Hi my name is George,

I have previously tutored at the GCSE level during my own A-Levels and, on a volunteer basis, performed A-level tutoring during my undergrad.
My preferred methods are to try and make learning about history as fun as it should be:
I like to use quizzes and interactive activities of that nature to ensure students have taken in the information they have been learning, rather than just learning it over one lesson and moving on.
However, I also recognise that learning by rote and understanding are two very different things, and so I encourage students to practise their judgement making skills in particular, especially given the emphasis on this skill in actual examinations.
Further to this, I recognise how important final exams are, as much as I'd love to learn and teach history for its own sake, and so I employ frequent practice of exam style questions and key exam skills, such as providing students with sources to analyse or asking them to make essay plans for given questions.
Finally, I recognise the importance of absorbing as much wider knowledge as possible, both for one's own academic growth generally, and in order to have more of a base of subject knowledge to fall back on. As such, I encourage students to do their own research, whether that be through traditional book learning or through alternative but equally effective media, such as podcasting and YouTube, provided they are thinking critically about these sources.
I have previously worked with students one on one, as I believe this can be the most effective method to meet most students needs.
