I have been teaching for over 2 years so I've learnt a lot in that time. I teach most of my students through phone calls and usually one lesson takes 30-60 min. It depends on the student and what they prefer. I always abide my students and their needs.
First call is usually introductory - I introduce myself to a new student and we talk about their English level, what they'd like to achieve and how would they like their lessons (length, content, etc.).
Then we continue as often as the student requires.
All the study materials are tailored to the student's needs and the important thing is that they should be as relevant and as fun to the student as possible. I noticed that rather than studying tedious textbooks, it's way more effective to study something entertaining, for example: movies, novels, tv shows, articles, etc. But in the end it all depends what the student prefers.
My goal is to make the lessons fun and chill. When people study English, usually their biggest fear is to speak because they're afraid they will embarrass themselves. The point of my lessons is to show my students that there's nothing to be embarrassed about and that it's okay to make a mistake. We learn by making mistakes and it's important to keep in mind that it's better to make a mistake rather than keep quiet. :-)
