I have been a both a mentee and tutee during my teenage years, and have found it incredibly useful to not only my university studies, but my confidence. It has helped me realise the various tools one can implement in order to learn in the most effective way.

At university, my assessments are often varied in format, which gives me ample knowledge on how to tailor my communication style to suit the chosen audience. This has included policy pitches, research proposals, compendiums, POSTnotes, and presentations. Many of these projects required complex concepts to be condensed in order to present them more succinctly within an argument. This is something that can prove useful when teaching, taking complicated terminology, ideas, research and reworking it to make it easier to understand, without losing its original meaning.

In my lessons, I prefer not to spend the entire period talking at you, but rather with you. Our first conversation will focus on a lesson structure that aligns with how you learn best. I encourage you to ask questions and be curious, really engage with the content and make it relevant for you. In terms of study methods, I like to use spaced repetition (whose efficacy has been proven and which I have used myself) in conjunction with a slideshow. For example, comparing knowledge at the start versus the end of a lesson. I understand too, how individuals differ in their approach to learning - some may learn best by applying their knowledge in practice (such as making and playing a game), others may appreciate the very conversational Socratic method.
