I have personal experience learning English as a foreign language and have worked in educational institutions and corporations in China and the UK. Having lived in both countries for over 20 years, I have developed a deep understanding of their cultural differences. Teaching Chinese to my children has inspired a deeper appreciation for the Chinese language and culture in me. I enjoy connecting to people to share knowledge and experience, and to explore the richness of Chinese culture together.

Fluent in both Chinese and English, I am able to explain concepts clearly in both languages. My experience has taught me that immersion in a real language environment is just as important as learning the language itself. I also believe that studying a language within its wider cultural context can significantly enrich the learner's understanding. Having worked as an interpreter in business meetings, I am keenly aware of culturally-rooted differences in business practices that can lead to barriers and misunderstandings. A literal understanding of the words often does not result in genuine and meaningful communication.

I have coached my children to achieve 9s in their GCSE Chinese. Whether you are just starting out learning Chinese, following a textbook or simply looking to chat and practice your conversational skills, I would be happy to support you and make a positive contribution to your learning experience. I take a flexible approach to suit your needs. I offer both online and in-person lessons at a suitable location. Before starting lessons, I prefer to meet the student in person where possible, to get to know each other and to discuss their learning goals and requirements.

I enjoy meeting new people. I always find every teaching experience mutually beneficial, as I have learned a great deal from each student myself.
