Having only had experience helping out friends, I find that the use of mnemonics, anagrams and diagrams are the best way to explain an idea and make it visually clear to the learner. I would also use PowerPoints and worksheets, as having learnt of them personally, it enables one to make their own notes in a condensed form and then enables them to test themselves to see what they have learnt. I think that lessons need to fun and not too intense, whilst at the same time studious and intellectual. I find this is the best atmosphere for students to learn in so that they don't feel too much pressure, but can learn the necessary along having fun. I would most importantly encourage students to ask questions when they are not sure of something, and I would be more than happy to rephrase or reteach anything to ensure it is made thoroughly clear. I find that I can make students understand what they hear and not just learn it. Understanding matter enables students to keep the information in their long term memory and helps for future revision and exams as the content doesn't have to be restudied, but instead can just be recapped.
