Before starting the lessons, I usually have a call with the new students to check their expectations and learning goals. Consequently, I create individual oriented language course, based on students' needs and goals. I prepare presentations to introduce English grammar and vocabulary easily. In addition to this, I add lots of pictures, music, cartoons, videos, films and conversational practice to each lesson agenda.
If this is a group lesson, students have peer tasks to improvise conversations using the vocabulary and grammar they have learnt with me. I teach students to learn through mistakes and become confident speakers from the very first lessons. As a home task, I encourage students to practice what we have learnt just writing 5 to 10 simple sentences on the relevant topic. Usually the topics cover daily life experience.
For example, when I teach topic Food and Drinks, students learn how to speak about their eating and drinking habits along with practicing times of the day and names of meals:
"I like to eat cereal for breakfast. I prefer eating soup for lunch. Usually I have a bite during the day"
In terms of grammar, this topic for Beginner learners covers Present Simple topic in use. Students also learn how to address other people to order their food and drinks using numbers, personal pronoun "I", words of politeness, auxiliary verb "do" and modal verb "can":
"Do you have any sandwiches? One coffee and one sanwich please. Can I pay by card?"
