With over 30 years of teaching biochemistry in various universities and institutions in USA and Greece. here is what I belied is the best method of teaching from a distance.
Thirteen lecture texts will be uploaded, available to the students. together with the proper biochemistry diagrams and pictures. Answers to questions will also be given from distance, either via email of otherwise, to the student's convenience. Two progress tests will be scheduled.
Help can be given to university students with the writing of their assays. which can cover not only biochemistry themes but also the relevant molecular biology issues, such as the structure, expression and regulation of the genes coding for the important enzymes of the various biochemical pathways. Guidance will be provided to access and use bioinformatics databases to extract information on the enzymes and their genes. Emphasis will be given to the biosynthesis of important plant pharmaceutical natural products and fungal antibiotics, plant anticancer agents, antifungals and natural products used in the food industry.
Industry personnel can be helped with the biotechnology aspects. These could be the extraction of useful industrial products, fermentation techniques, utilization of industry byproducts and environmental restoration via biotechnology approaches. Distance guidance to solving problems with molecular techniques, such as PCR detection of transgenic material of viral infections is available. Help with the writing of research articles for publication in international journals is also something I have long experience with. Help with the isolation, purification and designing of testing potential pharmaceutical products can also be given to industrial and research insitute personnel, including interpretation of NMR, Mass, UV and IR spectra.
