I am a postgraduate student majoring in TESOL at the University of Sheffield. This position is a good opportunity to put what I learned into practice.
At the same time, I am confident that I have the skills and experience to succeed in this position. I have gained practical experience as an intern teacher and English teaching assistant. My high performance has earned me a place to work as an elementary school English teacher at Jinqu Qufu School. During my tenure, I was conscious of the significance of children-centred education tailored to the independent individual with a unique teaching pedagogy, e.g., brainstorming and engaging in dialogue together, which would facilitate children to match their interests with the skills and concepts instead of the teacher-centred teaching model and the exam-oriented evaluation mechanism. While using Steiner’s model of education, including the four basic temperaments: choleric, phlegmatic, melancholic and sanguine, I set a goal to design a classroom that accommodated all these temperaments so that each child had a diversity of social and academic coping mechanisms. Regarding student growth and transitions, diversity and inclusion, transformational learning, and sentiments of belonging, I have concentrated on identities, relationships, and behaviours in education. Therefore, I came to Britain to further my studies.
In retrospect, my choice of majoring in English has proven to be profound and enriching, which has exposed me to literature appreciation, language communication, and simultaneous interpretation and equipped me with ample domain knowledge. While during my postgraduate study, Teaching Practice, Teaching listening and speaking, Language teaching methodology were some of the most demanding yet rewarding courses I aced. Those courses make me know how to better design a lesson.
