I'm a Third-year French and Spanish Studies at Lancaster University (Top 10 UK University) currently on my year abroad.
I have recently finished my exchange in Lyon, in the south of France, and I am currently studying in Granada, in the south of Spain.
After having achieved a 9 in my French GCSE a year early, I tutored students over Skype, designing lesson plans tailored to individual students and creating interactive activities that pertain to whichever learning styles were best for the student, whether they be kinaesthetic, visual, auditory or reading/writing. I meticulously follow exam board specifications, examiners' reports and past paper mark schemes to perfect both production and comprehension skills.
All of my students succeeded in achieving grade 8s and 9s (A*), some of whom had started at a grade 4 (D - pass).
Grammar can often be one of the most challenging aspects of learning a language, but I love the puzzle! With my students, I break down every grammatical construct into the simplest terms possible, and then we practise it with a wide variety of relevant examples to hone in on its everyday uses.
I strive to create an encouraging and supportive environment where students feel confident and engaged in their learning. I also enjoy helping students explore cultural and historical topics through language — whether that’s through discussing film, politics, or real-world issues.
Many of my students also went on to study A-Level French and thanked me for helping them see beyond the restrictive GCSE curriculum by personally introducing them to more Francophone culture throughout our sessions.
Additionally, I am open to supporting students who are focused on improving digital literacy, especially in relation to finding the best online language resources that are much more productive than Duolingo.
