William in a nutshell
I begin lessons by using a memorable term to make it easy to remember the names of the strings on a guitar i.e. EADGBE (Eddie Ate Dynamite Good Bye Eddie) and with warm up exercises for the left hand playing a note per finger to make it easier for the student to use their fingers independently (If they are right handed and the opposite if left handed). (FINGER PER FRET SYSTEM)

Useful tips on how to remember the way to hold the instrument to make it easier for the students to play and also remember how to sit properly when practising. I instruct students to very slowly focus on what both hands are doing while playing notes to make their coordination stronger than trying everything all at once. I use a system called CAGED which covers the open guitar chords C A G E and D, once the student has mastered them I move on to power chords which is a starting point for learning how to move on to playing Bar Chords.

Once the student has finally mastered how to play the instrument, mastered the open, power and bar chords the step will be learning a bit of theory starting with:

Guitar TAB, Notation and Scales.

Scales:
Major
Minor
Myxolidian
Pentatonic
Triads (Aperggios).

When learning how to play in time to a tempo I often use words to say out loud to play along to to make it easier to stay in time i.e Apple Apple Apple or Humpty Dumpty. Depending on the students ability.
