At school I found Mathematics relatively difficult until I was taught by the amazing Mr Trotter; he taught in a calm, structured, logical manner and my grades went through the roof within two or three months. I now model my teaching on what he did for me, and my students seem to appreciate it, just as I did!
I have quite a traditional approach; an engaging style of explanation coupled with plenty of practice and feedback are key to success. The student will absolutely not suffer death-by-powerpoint. I have tutored professionally (as well as for friends) for a number of years, and have seen my students progress in both understanding and confidence. I am told that I am very patient!
I teach Years 7-13 (age 11-18) on a regular basis each week, although I also have experience teaching students in Years 5 and 6 who want a boost before the move up to secondary school. I have huge experience teaching Foundation and Higher GCSE Mathematics, as well as Core Mathematics at A-Level.
Here are some videos which should give some sense of my style of explanation:
Pre-GCSE: Plotting a straight line
Higher GCSE: Surds
A-Level: Geometric proof using vectors
I don't just want you to do well in Maths; I hope that you'll start to love it for its own sake!
