My typical teaching style has been lecture based for more difficult subjects/concepts in physics, taught to students below that level, but have understood and successfully applied the concept anyway. However, for one-on-one tutoring, I believe an interactive, conversational teaching style will be much more effective, especially when learning potentially trickier topics.
A lesson structure will go roughly through the stages of:
- gauging an understanding
- teaching/reinforcing the concept
- applying the concept to questions or real-world use
- strengthening your application skills (more/more difficult questions/scenarios)
- strengthening it in your memory (coming back to it after a period of time)
These steps are flexible, naturally, and can be carried out over several sessions. I will attempt to look at your understanding before the lesson so I can find questions, build a lesson plan, etc, personalised for you. A solid plan is the base for success - that is a hill I will die on (based from my own mistakes).
