My experience:
I volunteer as a mandarin Chinese speaking practice provider for the language speaking practice scheme at my university in London, through which I have accumulated experience that will be conducive to Chinese tutoring jobs. I have tutored 2 British colleagues, 1 Italian colleague, and 1 Indian colleague, with aims to study Chinese like personal enthusiasm for Chinese culture, an upcoming exchange academic year in China, and wish to pass the HSK exam for better employment. At the beginning of my tutoring, I ask for their aims of studying Chinese to increase learning efficiency and keep their enthusiasm. As languages are often acquired through practice, I usually give them plenty of time to speak and write and raise questions, and I give feedback to them according to their preferred styles. I have enjoyed much fun doing this volunteering and they also enjoy my tutoring.

Back in China, I have been a part-time English tutor for pupils, high school and university students for 5 years and an intern for English teaching and research at China’s most authoritative language teaching press, Beijing Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) for 11 months, through which I have accumulated various language teaching experience. I usually tutored pupils and high school students to achieve high scores in exams at schools and university students to achieve their ideal scores in the IELTS exam. I know the difference among students of different ages and the importance of adjusting tutoring styles. Meanwhile, I have worked both onsite and online; therefore, I can well adapt to both modes of tutoring. During my internship at FLTRP, I have undertaken duties like designing exercises, providing feedback on students’ homework, and editing lecturing materials like PowerPoint and drafts. I know that students need fun, encouragement, and a sense of achievement to keep learning, and personalized and detailed feedback will help students make progress more quickly.
