lessons will be pretty informal, i know teachers can be intimidating but i think being relaxed makes students more likely to open up about questions and doubts. instead of blindly teaching content i believe that getting students to understand WHY a concept is the way it is vastly strengthens their knowledge. this is because you then rely on your understanding as opposed to simply memory. firstly, memory is not always reliable and secondly, a lot of the time it’s simply insufficient for more challenging questions. i don’t want students to view my sessions as a time they “dread” as this can make them dishonest or disingenuous about their understanding of the subject. this doesn’t help me but most importantly harms the student themselves.
