Due to the nature of online learning, I understand it is hard to stay focused when there are so many distractions. Typically, staying committed to at least one session a week has seen great progress with previous students. It is important to align my sessions and support with what you are already learning at school. So, I like to use this as a starting point.
I also like to use a student led approach. I think it’s important to provide explanations and ensure you have all the information you need, but this can be achieved most effectively through active methods. These include quizzes, matching exercises, problem based learning using case studies as well as a flipped classroom exercises where you teach concepts to me! Mind maps and even planning a presentation for a topic is a great way for me to see how you attempt questions and allows me to direct my sessions towards making you feel confident. My favourites are Kahoot as it’s interactive (works better in a group setting), Quizlet, and YouTube clips. However, this may not work for you, my job is to tailor my teaching to you however this looks like! Of course, in order for this to work I am available to essentially do what you tell me, hence the student-led approach.
As long as I am confident that you understand a topic well, I am happy to focus on key areas that you struggle with and ensure you are well supported through that. In order to get to that stage, I am responsible for providing feedback during the sessions which lets us both know your progress, as well as providing progress reports to see the development yourself.
