Each of my lessons has a key focus. I make sure that by the end of the lesson, the student is more confident about the topic than they were before it started. Keeping the student engaged is important and since each student learns differently, I have to have a range of methods. Before regular lessons, building trust between myself and the student is also key. They need to be comfortable talking to me and asking questions, which is the main focus of the first lesson. I will also clarify the student's problem areas so that it is easier to plan for future sessions, but also so I know what level they are at. For students who are taking exams, GCSEs or A-Levels, practicing exam questions and looking through the mark schemes is important for them as it will help them understand where the marks are awarded from and how to ensure they secure all possible marks. I have seen with teachers and peers that it works quite effectively. I have had experience teaching primary school pupils in the past, but I am confident that I can teach older pupils just as well. Many of my peers, who I have previously helped with areas in maths that they found hard, told me that they enjoyed learning from me as I made the content and questions easier to understand. I take pride in knowing that I am able to help students in their maths journey, no matter what their age or ability.
