I am a highly experienced teacher that is well versed in learning theory. This means I understand various learner types and how they best process information. From this, an academic and pastoral strategy can be designed to help individuals or groups engage, learn and confidently take charge of their own learning needs in the future
Whether students are highly capable or have learning difficulties, I have the pedagogical understanding, subject knowledge and relationship building skills to help them progress and enjoy learning so that education is seen as an opportunity not an obstacle to overcome.
Lessons are based on trust and effort. This means trusting that whatever students are asked to do, it has an important benefit for them and when they engage in learning, they try their best and ask for help when they do not understand.
Lessons can be power point based, written tasks or discussions. This depends on the age, level of qualification and what the student is comfortable with. For example, university students may prefer open discussions whereas secondary learners may be used to written tasks.
Above all, it is what the student wants to achieve and why. Once a learner has visualised their ambitions and how learning will support it, the mind becomes more receptive to information. This is where the psychological (or pastoral) element of teaching is essential and it works for adults as well as children.
