Teaching principles: I believe every student should be able to apply and integrate fundamental concepts, apply their critical thinking abilities, and solve real world problems. For such a result, a constant effort needs to be made by both the teacher and the student. My teaching philosophy for students to achieve this is to i) help them develop a strong understanding of the underlying physics of the phenomena, ii) help them develop critical thinking abilities, and iii) make them realize the broader applications of what they are learning.
Teaching strategy: A strong understanding of the physics behind a phenomenon can be achieved by introducing the idea in a familiar context. This needs to be supplemented with visual demonstrations and prototypes which are vital for the learning process. Challenging them with a hands-on project will help them develop critical thinking abilities.
Additionally, efforts will be made to share with the students the broader applications of what they have learnt to real life complex systems. This will be augmented by sharing with them the excitement about rapidly growing interdisciplinary cutting-edge fields. This also gives the opportunity for one to inspire them to pursue graduate studies. I believe that such efforts spark a sense of curiosity in them and paves the way to make them independent thinkers, which I believe is a key goal of education.
Emphasis will be put on a daily basis to develop an inclusive, innocuous, and friendly learning environment as it is vital for the above stated strategy to be effective. I will ensure that students regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or country of origin will feel welcome.
