I begin the lesson by greeting my students and ensuring that they are settled and ready to begin the lesson. Once this is done, I present the student with a starter activity which covers topics and theories covered in the previous lesson. This ensures the student understood the content taught and are able to recall methods (in preparation for exams). Following the starter, I begin to teach the new content which usually consists of 3 steps. Firstly, I provide a general explanation of the topic and the foundation skills which are required for the lesson. After this, I introduce an example (or a number of examples depending on the complexity or variety of questions that can occur within the topic) and explain the step by step process of how to reach the answer. Once we reach a point in the lesson where I feel the student is able to attempt a question on their own, we move onto the final step where I will set them a fairly typical question to complete. If this is done correctly, I will then set a series of harder questions to complete without any major help (if possible) within a given time frame. Before the lesson ends, we will run through the answers and check that either the student has got the correct answer or they understand where they have gone wrong. To conclude the lesson, I will discuss with the student how they feel with the content taught in the lesson and whether or not we need another lesson on it.
