While I am new to tutoring, I have always enjoyed helping people to learn new things. I worked briefly as a language assistant as work experience at my old secondary school, and have also worked as an assistant at a preschool. I enjoy working with children, and they generally respond very well to me. I like to use games to make the lessons entertaining, which helps them to focus and to remember what they are learning. I find that praise goes a long way to motivate a child, and it is as important, if not more so, to point out what they are doing well as to point out their mistakes.
I lived in France for thirteen years and have a Master's in translation, so I am bilingual in French, which is why I have chosen to tutor in that subject. I think it is important for children to learn a language, as it opens them up to a lot of experiences they would not have otherwise. It may also help them in a career later in life, or just to travel and learn about new cultures. Once they have learned one language, it is easier for them to learn another.
I often helped my classmates with English while I was living in France by explaining things in different words to make it easier for them to understand, a method I would use while tutoring. I try to customise the lessons to the child, and work out the best method to help them learn.
