I always begin with a check about current understanding and coverage of course content before asking the student whether they have a preference to work on knowledge and understanding, exam skills or academic writing for humanities. I will use worksheets personalised for the student to ensure they have a takeaway from each session and use digital resources such as GSuite to give feedback on work completed. For the humanities and social sciences that I teach, I always spend time on academic reading and source content at an appropriate level to enable students to broaden their knowledge of the subject and the specific topics they are learning.
