I like to go through the main concepts of each topic and then explain an example question. Then I'd set the student some questions try for themselves to check if they understand it. After I would go through anything they don't understand in order to clear any doubts. And I would only move onto the next topic after the student is able to confidently do the questions of that topic correctly and independently.
