I have experience helping others with English, particularly grammar, and I prefer to work with my students to know what they want to learn. I want to prioritize comfortability and belonging with my students. My educational studies courses at university indicate that, when those prioritized, it is easier for students to ask questions and feel less shame making mistakes. And, while I hope to correct the mistakes made, I believe that the first steps to learning are making mistakes. In order to cultivate learning, I will try to understand the proficiency level of my student. This will most likely take place in the form of a pre-test and/or consultation. Once I understand your level of proficiency, I will then find out what your goals are for learning English. Depending on what the reasons are for learning English, I will curate a personalized lesson plan. These lessons plans will include vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Depending on what is best for the student, we can do a “flipped” classroom experience that would prioritize out of class work that would be discussed during our meeting times, or we could prioritize meeting times to learn and discuss. I want to make my lessons as accessible to students as possible so I am very flexible in regard to what works best for each student’s schedule, learning style, and proficiency. I hope that our meetings feel like a collaboration and that we are comfortable enough with each other to discuss what works and what does not.
