I work with both ADULTS and KIDS of all levels. Even if you are a COMPLETE BEGINNER, don’t hesitate to contact me. I will do everything possible to make chess interesting for you first and foremost, not difficult.
My name is Valery Filippov and I am an international GrandMaster with a 2656 USCF and a 2553 FIDE rating. I have been teaching online and OTB chess for 19 years. My best achievements as a player:
* In 2000, I became the champion of the world amongst students.
* In 2003, I joined the top 10 of the strongest chess players in the USA rating.
* In 2005, I entered the top 50 of the best chess players worldwide. I have the tremendous experience of performances and victories at various international tournaments.
I also participated in the Russian national team at the international chess Olympics in 2004.
About my teaching experience: I started teaching in 2004. I spent 9 years working at the Russian chess club. Since 2013, I have been teaching online. During this time, my students increased the rating by more than 5,000 points. I helped some students receive their first international chess titles (category). Others were interested in improving their online rating at chess com. My students repeatedly became champions of chess clubs, cities, and even states.
About the lessons:
All you need to prepare is Teams and a account.
During our first lesson, we’ll get to know each other. I’ll ask about your chess background and your goals. And yes, goals can be very different -from wanting to finally beat your husband / wife to becoming the strongest player in your club or city
Then I’ll assess your current playing level, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and see whether you’ve studied any openings before. Of course, we’ll also play a few games together - and who knows, you might even get a chance to beat me in one of them (no promises).
After the lesson, I’ll create a detailed personal plan just for you. It will include opening recommendations, 10 key topics I suggest you focus on in the near future, plus some general but very useful advice (how to play online effectively, which courses, websites, and books are worth your time). You can follow this plan with me or work through it independently.
If you decide to continue, future lessons will cover all aspects of chess:
Basic strategy (how to develop your pieces in the opening, how to find the right plan).
Your first professional openings.
A bit of endgame theory.
And lots of analysis of your games.
I promise - it will be interesting. ??
